it's a dog's life
You know what they say…. it’s a dog’s life!!
These are the dogs in my life. Well, not all the dogs, but just the ones who live with me. I have other dogs as well… grand dogs, mainly, but friends dogs, too.
I am lucky enough to live up on the Beach in the Pacific Northwest. Literally steps from the sand. Well for now, at least. I do tend to travel around a bit. My home is on wheels. I am a bit of a gypsy, and so are my dogs. Where I go, they go. I sort of planned it out that way.
Some of the granddogs are close enough to come to stay at the beach with me while their moms are off seeing the world… or other occupied!
And that is actually really nice for all of us. I have no grand children, so I am entitled to indulge these pups in a very grand motherly way!!
The Dude
This is the Dude… as in the Dude Abides, or Duderino, or His Dudeness. Yes, his formal name is actually Lebowski, after the Big Lebowski.
He is a cattle dog/rat terrier mix that was found wandering the streets of Kingman Arizona. I went to the shelter, looking for a female chocolate lab puppy…. and came home with the Dude. Sometimes, dogs pick us. I have had him since January of 2013 — and he is about 8.
He is happiest when he is working — loves chasing gophers and other rodents, and is always on the lookout. I won’t let him chase the bears that occasionally come onto the property, or the white tailed deer.
I don’t usually let him go where there are lots of dogs — because he likes to “round them up”. Unfortunately…. same with young children…. and chickens.
But his nature is also to be a big tattletale… so he always is on alert and ready to tell me if something is amiss. And he can channel his inner Cujo when frightened — which makes him an excellent guard dog.
Rainey
And this is Rainey. In almost all cultures around the world, rain is considered a blessing, and an omen of good luck to come. It is also the Anglo-Irish-Scottish diminutive of Regina, meaning Queen. And then there is Ma Rainey — mother of the blues. Pick your reason, I considered them all. And , it seemed like a great name for her. So refer to her as Rainey, Queen of Everything.
She has only been with us for a short time, but has touched our hearts. She is a special needs rescue, so you may notice her wearing britches in some of her photos. She has Spina Bifida, something that her first owners were unprepared to deal with. Click the button below to read more, and see videos about her adoption From Lily’s Pad Rescue.
Some of these are our family dogs, and some are dogs of friends. Some are still with us and some have passed on. And…. there are a few dogs that we couldn’t help but post!
I’m Tracy Wright. And thanks for watching my video. I’m an online blogger, knitting designer, and traveler. The dogs and I live full time in my RV, travel all over, and enjoy the heck out of life.
day 18: crazy
Crazy was the name of the game today. Nuts, Cray-Cray, Wacky, Insane. The weather was crazy wild. Lots of wind, and stinging rain. So... no one wanted to go outside much. Expecially me. Well, I am the only person here. But the dogs didn't want to go out...
day 17: shop around
My daughter told me... you better shop around!! And that is generally what we like to do. When we are in Portland, we go to one of the Goodwills. However, I found the best ever thrift shop near my home in Long Beach, Washington. I've been to the REACHOUT...
day 16: fields of gold
You'll forget the sun in his jealous sky, when we walk the fields of gold. Sting said it all, on this amazing song. Tomorrow, I'll cross my own field of gold and I head down to take a look at the ever-changing coastline that is my beach. Pretty amazing. For those of...
