Day 5, and I was a bit worried about wearing it belted. I just didn’t want to look like a gray potato sack trussed up in the middle.
I think sometimes we get caught up with notions like this because of something we heard as a child or young person. Such as don’t wear white after Labor Day, horizontal stripes make you look fat, and leather belts on dresses look like hillbillies.
As a chubby teenager, I never wore my shirts tucked in, never wore belts. And even after I reached adulthood… these misconceptions stayed with me. I have belts, 2 or 3, and they fit just fine. But I don’t wear them.
And one year into the pandemic… I have perhaps gained a few pounds. But I’m sure I am in pretty good company.
So today is a day of reckoning between me and the belt. We are going to let bygones be bygones, and become friends. Me, Woolamina, and the belt.
For those of you who still haven’t heard…I am involved in a 100-Day Challenge, put on by Wool& — Same dress. 100 days. Part of my reasons for deciding to do this was to simplify my life, especially with the weekly travels.
Today’s goals:
- Pick an outfit and make friends with the belt — and get belted!
- Relax… it is Sunday!
What’s in store for today:
I am looking forward to a quiet day at home: Listen to KNPR, walk to the beach of the rain lets up, knit… and work on my blog. Oh.. and get belted!
Today, I started out with Woolamina (of course) and then added a soft flannel shirt Made by American Eagle, added the belt and my cross necklace from Mexico/New Orleans…. I had it on for DAY 3.
Boots are by KEEN. (Are you wondering how many pairs I have??) SUPER comfortable, waterproof, insulated, and lined with fleece. Legging tights were from the Gap, I think.
100% wool handknit Irish Fisherman sweater is made by Lock Garman. It is ancient… but will probably out live me. In fact, I would like to be buried in it… but not anytime soon!
And the belt, itself. I believe it came from the Gap, as well. Split grain, simple, and smells like leather should. It’s been carted around a bunch… just not around me.
And I think it works. I think belted is a look I am going to repeat. Shortens the dress up a bit… and that’s a nice change!!

SOME OF MY RECENT POSTS:
day 24: blue
Blue is just one of those colors. I love blues, but mostly think of myself as a pink person. I have a lot of turquoise jewelry, and even a turquoise and white Honda 50 scooter... and a ton of blue jean and chambray shirts. An blue really seems to pair well with my...
day 23: act naturally
I find it hard to "act naturally" when staring down the lens of a camera... or, in my case, aad cellphone mounted on a tripod. It's has taken a bit of getting used to, mounting my phone on a $20 tripod, and then using the Bluetooth "clicker" to snap the photo. And...
day 22: one more cup of coffee
One more cup of coffee -- sometimes that is all you need! I used to drink coffee all day long. There was always one more cup of coffee in the coffee pot. And I never had any trouble sleeping. But, times have changed and now I just have one or two cups in the...
