day 15: long way home

day 15: long way home

“Forgive me pretty baby, but I always take the long way home.” Tom Waits wrote it but Norah Jones really brings it home.  And I think about those words and wonder if the “long way” is creative avoidance or a statement about finding one’s way. No matter, it’s a great song.  Have a listen HERE.

Tomorrow, I’ll be taking the long way home.. literally. It would be faster to take the I -5 part of the way… but then really.  So forgive me, I’ll always take the long way home.

long way home

For those of you new to this blog …I am involved in a 100-Day Challenge, put on by Wool&  —  Same dress.  100 days. (And yes, you can wash it!) Part of my reasons for deciding to do this was to simplify my life, especially with my lifestyle.

What’s in store this week:

I’m in Portland, until tomorrow  – and then head the long way home to the coast of southern Washington. Today, I had a rhythm class online,  where I banged my drum a bit, ( 3/3 of for the daily practice goal) I had lunch with My Daughter the Chef,  Ran Errands with Number 1, and played with the dogs.  Also… a trip to Mud Bay to pick up treats for Rainey’s interactive dog toys… mostly to keep Rainey busy. She likes THIS one!

Still need to lace up my shoes and practice my Appalachian Flatfooting and Clogging class…. and have been checking out another pair, so I don’t have to drag them with me back and forth to the coast.  Frye oxfords… be still my heart!

Speaking of Rainey, this is me trying to get a photo… while her being a miss silly pants. See her story HERE!

long way home

By the way, I was super impressed with the folks at Mud Bay.  Not only will you find healthy food, and well-made supplies — but they DONATE lots of money to shelters!! I am not sure if they are in your area…. but if they are, check them out.

They don’t give me anything for this endorsement — but Dude and Rainey wouldn’t mind a lifetime of treats… ahem… just saying….

long way home

Here’s what I came up with for today!

The Details:

long way home

Woolamina with H&M basic boxy sweatshirt in pale pink, and pink knit buff — doubles as a mask in a pinch!

long way home

Pink Leggings are high waisted, compression style,  and quite warm!

long way home

The reason Rainey wears diapers is because she has Spina Bifida.  Even though she is completely mobile, she will always need to wear diapers. But we find cute diaper covers like THESE!

long way home

Here are some of the plants at Number 1’s house.  Looking forward to spring, and more things starting to grow.

day 14: blinded by the light

day 14: blinded by the light

Blinded by the light pretty much is when the sun comes out in Portland, Oregon.  If you have ever seen the show Portlandia… you know what I am talking about.  Any amount of sunlight is cause for great jubilation… and a chance to break out sunglasses and lawn chairs.

And today — yes, we got some sun! Halleluiah!!

For those of you just joining…I am involved in a 100-Day Challenge, put on by Wool&  —  Same dress.  100 days. Part of my reasons for deciding to do this was to simplify my life, especially with my residential choice.

What’s in store this week:

I’m in Portland, Oregon on for a few more days, before heading back to the coast. Today, I banged my drum a bit, and sold another drum at the drum store. so I am 2/2 of for the daily practice. I picked up some art supplies for  Figuary — where you draw figures for every day of the month — and hope to start that challenge.

And I laced up my leather soled oxfords and started the first momdule of the Appalachian Flatfooting and Clogging class.  I’ll practice everyday (and i really need to practice ) and then show up at the zoom class on Saturday and see how I do.  Maybe, I will video my feet at some point. Since I have absolutely no pride whatsoever about my dancing abilities…. it should be fun, and not too humbling

Speaking of the light.. do you think Valentine’s Day is too late to take the last of the lights down?

Here’s what I came up with for today!

The Details:

the light

Super soft, 100% cashmere sweater by Adrienne Vittidini — a wonderful gift from my Daughter The Chef.  DTC has impeccable taste in gifts… and we ALL love that!

Back of the sweater is ribbed.

the light

Woolamina, covered with the sweater, and a funny little scarf that I picked up at a thrift store.

Sterling hand stamped earrings were from a shop in Arizona.

Boots are my go to by Hunter!

I ended up throwing on my gap coat on top — the one I had in yesterday’s post.  It worked well with the scarf.  And Number 1 and I , after much research, believe ourselves to be autumn color types.

day 13: best shot

Hit me with your best shot… right in the left arm.  And then “hit” Number 1.  Because both of us rolled up our sleeves for the covid vaccine today.

And… It was pretty painless.  Glad that is out of the way.  Next dose in about two weeks.

What’s in store this week:

I’ll be here in Portland on for a few more days, before heading back to the coast.  I practiced my drum… one of my daily goals for the month. And today is February 1st, which is the beginning of Figuary — where you draw figures for every day of the month.

I start the Appalachian Flatfooting and Clogging class today, as well — the first module was released online… and then we get together over zoom on Saturday.  Super excited about that one.   I got some new vintage shoes, with leather soles on Etsy.  They are a bit big, but nice thick soles, and hand-stitched. Should make nice crisp taps!

Here’s what I came up with for today!

day12: left foot in

You put your left foot in…. you put your left foot out….and you know how the rest goes. Pretty soon you are doing the hokey- pokey, transformed back to the rollercade.

My days of skating are long past, but yoga is a bit of “put your left foot in” — at least for me it is.

I love yoga.  Mostly I love it when I am finished doing yoga.  Especially when I was doing Bikram yoga….

For those of you just joining…I am involved in a 100-Day Challenge, put on by Wool&  —  Same dress.  100 days. Part of my reasons for deciding to do this was to simplify my life, especially with my residential choice.

What’s in store this week:

I’ll be driving to Portalnd on Sunday, after i finish the 7th and final day of the Bodhran drum challenge.   But have learned a LOT… and am considering lessons or workshops. I’ll have to decide which.   This is part of my personal goal to keep learning new things.   On the First, I start the Appalachian Flatfooting and Clogging class.  Super excited about that one.  I am still working on sweater #2 for the 12 sweater goal I have this year ( photo below!) Whew.

Here’s what I came up with for today!

The Details:

left foot in

Gap  gray and white stripped long sleeve t-shirt over Woolamina, followed by Mossimo Supply zip hoodie.

Boots are my ancient Uggs, perfectly broken in, and extremely comfortable.

Top it all off with the  Black Yoga Poncho, also from the Gap.

Kangaroo pocket in the front, and has a fantastic hood.

left foot

Number 1 gave me the  fabulous yoga mat bag by ELENTURE

Super handy, and has generous pocket for keys and phones.

left foot

It may not be my most polished look, but it makes up for it in comfort… and that is what I needed today.  A little self- care and comfort. And Downward dog.

(And that is a STANLEY French Press on the counter in the top photo!)

days 10 & 11: our house

days 10 & 11: our house

I love our house — which is, by the way, a 24′ rv.  I live here with my two dogs, on the beach in SW Washingon.  And, although I spend a lot of time in Portland, where my daughter lives, this is our house.

I look at it as trading REAL estate for WHEEL estate.  Made the full time move in 2018, and haven’t regretted a moment.

Living in our house does have some constraints… mostly space.  Which is why the #100daydresschallenge is perfect.

For those of you just joining…I am involved in a 100-Day Challenge, put on by Wool&  —  Same dress.  100 days. Part of my reasons for deciding to do this was to simplify my life, especially with my residential choice.

What’s in store this week:

It’s been a busy couple of days. I drove the 100+ miles back home and settled in back at the beach. Still doing the Bodhran drum challenge at 9 am every morning, just finished day 6 out of 7. (I’ll be sorry to have it end — but have learned a LOT… and realize that I have tons to learn.  This is part of my personal goal to keep learning new things.  So last month, and now this month, I have been doing the Bodhran, and took up spindle drop spinning.  This upcoming week, I’ll be starting the Appalachian Flatfooting and Clogging class.  Super excited about that one.  And I am still working on sweater #2 for the 12 sweater goal I have this year.  Whew.

And I am still trying to blog daily, and show people how to make money from home.

Here is the fabulous skirt that I got from  DARN GOOD YARN!  I have decided that I will only buy clothes that are recycled, or sustainably made, natural fibers.

The fine folks at DGY create and sell products that are good for our planet (reducing impact on the environment and empowering hard-working people.) They also sell yarn to allow their customers to create their own environmentally-friendly crafts.

Woman-owned, thoughtfully sourced and
earth & human friendly. That’s important to me.  Plus, I like supporting small businesses, don’t you?

But first, let’s get caught up with day 10!

Here’s the look that I put together to carry me through a hectic Friday:

our house

The Details:

Dog Definitely a part of the look… dog hair, not so much. And it was the main reason I did not get the dress in black.

Boots are my trusty Hunter MuckBoots.  They will probably outlast me.

our house

LAYERS: skivvies, leggings, Woolamina, Button down shirt, Sweater, and Carhart vest (above) and boots.   Makes for a warm and comfortable day. Ready for anything.

our house

The little white appliance you see near the couch is a de-humidifier.  It is a necessity if you live full-time in an RV… even in a dry state.

No one wants a mold bloom.  These also work in sticks-and-bricks homes.

More here for RV Hacks…

our house

Charter Club, 100% cotton blouse.  I found this at a thrift store, and just love the pattern and the feel of it.

The pullover is chenille, also found at a thrift store.  (I go weekly with Number 1….it’s our “thing”)

On day 11, I wore my recycled sari skirt from Darn Good Yarn!

I’ve tried to clear up some of the clutter, make for a better photo.  I’t is tough with such little space, but I have come up with some good storage hacks for all types of living:

day 9 – poncho and lefty

Who doesn’t love a fabulous poncho??T I love, love, love this one.  It was a gift from a great friend.   But, unfortunately, I have been remiss.  I changed out of my fancy dressup clothes and into traveling clothes just before the drive to the coast. And I lefty both the lovely poncho and Ann Taylor Loft beaded sweater in Portland… where I will be more likely to wear them.

But that leaves me with my sketchy memory about where everything came from.  But I will try my best!

I think I may have well “lefty” my brain back in Portland, too!

For those of you who still haven’t heard…I am involved in a 100-Day Challenge, put on by Wool&  —  Same dress.  100 days. Part of my reasons for deciding to do this was to simplify my life, especially with the weekly travels.

Today’s goal:

  • Let’s get dressed up a bit

What’s in store for today:

It’s another busy one!! It’s day 4 of the Bodhran drum challenge at 9 am, and then Advance Rhythm after that.  Oh, and business call at 8am.

Then, run a few errands, and off to the coast.

poncho

I just adore this poncho.  Soft and colorful.  My favorite.

I found these never worn Danskos — or rather Number 1 found them  — at Goodwill!! Score!!

poncho

Ok.. so the look: poncho over sweater over Woolamina.  Paired with black sheer-ish tights, and.. my dress up shoes!

poncho

Little beaded sweater is from Ann Taylor Loft. Little bit of luxery that I found… ok Number 1 found at Goodwiil.

poncho

Did I mention that mention that I live at the beach??
