day 71 of #tracywearswool: where do the children play?

day 71 of #tracywearswool: where do the children play?

#tracywearswool day 71 out of 100, and let’s talk about playing.

So where do the children play these days.  When we were kids, you got on your bike after breakfast and came back for dinner. You went to your friends’ houses, or the beach, or the park, or met in an empty field, or mountain top… or wherever.  AND… I’m not that old.

But this pandemic has put a twist on things. Kids can’t get together like they used to.  And that is a shame. bt even without the pandemic… times are changing.  Around here, the parks are filthy.  In the street in front of the house, people toss their trash in the gutter. It blows into my daughter’s yard, plastic bottles, papers, food wrappers, fast food containers.  You name it.  I wondered if it would help to put a trash can there.  I wouldn’t want my kids playing in that.  Horrible.

About a year ago, I gave up single-use plastic and paper goods ( except toilet paper.)  I know it is not much, but I hope it helps.  And I really don’t miss them.  Saves space, money, and the environment.  And Sustainability is one of my reasons for doing the Dress Challenge.  Might not work for everyone, but it works for me.

For those of you new to this blog …I am involved in a 100-Day Challenge, put on by Wool&  —  Same dress.  100 days. (And yes, you can wash it!) Part of my reasons for deciding to do this was to simplify my life, especially with my lifestyle.

What’s in store today:

Working on knitting and knitting patterns here in Portland.  And I joined a Meet and Knit Zoom Event held by a local yarn shop tonight — over ZOOM, of course.

Still working on publishing my last hat pattern. Sign up on my mailing list for GYPSYWAGONKNITS and I’ll notify you when it comes out.

Here are the socks I am doing now:

#tracywearswool 71
I got this Self Striping Alanya Sock Yarn Kit from Darn Good Yarn. This color is Love Letter, but there are 4 others! (I am pretty sure it is on sale now, too!)
And use code: TRACY15 for an additional 15% off.
Woman owned, thoughtful sourced and good for our peeps and planet.
#tracywearswool 71

I threw an old Gap 100% cotton chambray shirt , and an even older FLAX elastic waist, baby wale corduroy shirt over Woolamina.

She becomes this perfect under-dress.. and I don’t have to worry about her getting untucked like a t-shirt!

#tracywearswool 71

Then nice thick leggings,  and my trusty Crocs.

I forgot to take off my trusty boot socks, so you will see them in some of the photos below.  I kind of wear them like slippers when I am inside, and leave my shoes at the door.

#tracywearswool 71

It got up to  70 here in Portland, Oregon today.  And we made a lot of progress on the garden.  Make sure to check back tomorrow, because I will for sure be posting photos of the progress.

#tracywearswool 71

Did you notice the new specs??  WHOO HOO!

And best of all, I got some computer ” midrange glasses” which is really going to help with eye strain & reading the screen!

Cool Circular Needles were about half what I normally pay, so that’s  bonus!

#tracywearswool 71

Thanks for joining me on day 71 of #tracywearswool. This is me trying to get some decent shots for my post!

Stay tuned for the next 29 days!

Be well, and get out there and play!

tracywearswool day 70 out of 100 — And it is a beautiful day

Crazy chilly, but so much better with my new thick leggings on, and the cherry trees are all blooming here in Portland.  And I drive down past the golf course, where there are thick hedges of blackberries, waiting for the first signs of blackberry blossom. Can’t wait.

For now, I’ll just have to wear my blackberry blossom dress.  With the hat that I finished.  Decided to call it the Little Farm hat… because the ribbing reminds me of little garden furrows. And, it will remind me of the huge garden project.

I guess I better get going on writing up a few patterns, I have 2 sweaters, a hat, and several sock patterns.  UGGG… so far behind.   Sign up on my mailing list for GYPSYWAGONKNITS and I’ll notify you when it comes out.

So first, a trip to Ikea, and I get to drive past the blackberry thickets. And I can practise some of my dancing!!

tracywearswool 70

Super easy outfit today, mostly staying warm inside and knitting…. after a great morning sleeping in, and knitting in bed.

Lularoe stretchy short sleeve dress over Woolamina.

tracywearswool 70

Then nice thick leggings, wool boot socks, and my trusty Crocs.

Mostly just to the socks, though.

Except when I went to Ikea, and I wore my dancing shoes!

tracywearswool 70

Sometimes, it is rather nice to have a day of loafing.  Really nice.

Thanks for joining me on day 70 of tracywearswool.

tracywearswool day 69 out of 100 — And today was like Christmas!!

I got to Portland and there were two packages. The larger was sent by my Sister in the Wool, Lois Ann.  She was destashing  her clothes, and would I be interested in some of the Items.  YES I WOULD!!

And here is what she sent:

tracywearswool 69

A cotton kimono from when she and her daughter were in a production of Mikado, a linen apron, some socks, and the best selection of tights that I could ever ask for!!  Holy Moses!! So much fun.

It also dawned on me, that while I have cleverly titled all my posts for songs I love, I have been cheating you all out of actually hearing the song.  So I give you…

What’s in store today:

In Portland now — waiting for the cold weather to start — supposed to be in the 30s tomorrow — but I will be super snuggly in my new tights!!

Still working on my hat…. going to make it a super-slouchie version! Sign up on my mailing list for GYPSYWAGONKNITS and I’ll notify you when it comes out.

tracywearswool 69

Such Great Tights, feel like thick 100% cotton! I’ll have to ask because the tag is missing

Watch is Timex Weekender — CLASSIC!

tracywearswool 69

REI fleece zip-up has seen a lot of wear, but still washed up nicely and doesn’t get too pill-y.

tracywearswool 69

I think these are my favorite… but she sent along about 6 pairs, some solid, and some with fabulous stripes.  You will be seeing all of them in the coming days, I am sure!!

tracywearswool 69

Hat progress…. hope to finish tomorrow, and get it off. Still haven’t come up with a design name….

Oh… and the other package — seems that I ordered a Sierra the same time I ordered my Rowena.  Thought I cancelled it… but am super glad I didn’t!!

day 68 of tracywearswool: who’ll stop the rain

tracywearswool day 68 out of 100 — and again, we have torrential rain and howling wind.

But that is how it is on the Southern Washington Coast.  Just yesterday, I was proclaiming the wonderful presence of the sun.   here, the weather changes every hour, or so.

For those of you new to this blog …I am involved in a 100-Day Challenge, put on by Wool&  —  Same dress.  100 days. (And yes, you can wash it!) Part of my reasons for deciding to do this was to simplify my life, especially with my lifestyle.

What’s in store today:

Since I finished my sweater, I’ll be taking it to Portland for blocking and photos.  I am hoping it’ll be the #ood for tomorrow.

And I started the long-overdue hat for a thankyou present. Have not come up with a name yet, but I will — I’ll get that pattern written up and put it on a page for you knitters out there.  Sign up on my mailing list for GYPSYWAGONKNITS and I’ll notify you when it comes out.

But here is a sample:

tracywearswool 68

Super soft cotton flannel shirt, an old standby, and I love the colors.

I love this sweater more every time I wear it.

tracywearswool 68

I didn’t do the full-body pose — but this one shows pretty much everything.  And… the dog is there.  Such a camera hog.

tracywearswool 68

And yet the Dude flattens his ears back and hides when he hears that camera come out.  It’s my cell phone — but he knows… especially when I get the tripod!

tracywearswool 68

Crocs and socks day.  Perfect for the drive to portland.

And here is the ribbing portion of the hat done.  Hope he likes it. 100% highland wool.

tracywearswool day 67 out of 100 — what a great day it is to be outside.

I just love the spring.  It is not quite warm enough to be out in short sleeves yet, but warm enough to plant seeds.  And not quite warm enough to go barefoot but warm enough to hike down to the beach. Of course, here, it is warm enough to hike to the beach anytime… the sun just makes it a whole lot nicer! And nice enough to want to take the dogs out for a walk, and wave to other people who are out walking, too.  The world warms up, and people warm up.

What’s in store today:

My last lesson through the Appalachain Flatfooting and Clogging Academy was today. We will have a graduation party next weekend, and before that, I will be posting videos of what I have learned this week. All in all, it has been a wonderful experience that I hope to continue on. And, I have met some really great people that I would love to stay connected to.  Heck, I’d like to put Kentucky on my travel plan once the lockdown is all over… and the world opens up again.

tracywearswool 67

I love this LL Bean Shirt.  I had one years ago, a bigger, sloppier size, that I somehow lost.  Years later, I ran across it again, much smaller.  Just not able to wear it.

Vest is another thrift store find.  Love it… lots of pockets.

tracywearswool 67

Probably not the most flattering photo of me… but I am learning not to care.  It is what it is.  Sometimes you just have to let it all hang out!!  THis challenge is helping me come to terms with that! Lose the “perfection” myth.

tracywearswool 67

All my old photos of myself used to look stiffed and posed… mostly because they were.  I think just doing impromptu shots helps convey the fun that I am having — and I am having a lot of fun with this challenge!

tracywearswool 67

Crocs and naked-y ankles.

I used to be embarrassed to show my white calves, or my fat thighs, or my old lady arms.  But isn’t that a bit silly.  I mean… we all have them. So, let’s keep it real. So much nicer.

day 66 of tracywearswool: route 66

tracywearswool day 66 out of 100 — and this challenge has definitely been a KICK!

It is so much more than just wearing the same dress over and over for 100 days.  For me, the dress — an iron-gray swing style — becomes the background for a whole range of creative ideas and styles. Some of them I never thought I would be comfortable with.  But this challenge allows you to go out of your comfort zone…  if you will let it.

At 66 days, I am 2/3 of the way down the road. And I have used up most of my creative ideas for outfits.  Time to get creative.  I have the support of hundreds of other people doing the challenge.  We share ideas, feelings… and even clothes, sometimes.  It is nice not to be doing it all alone. And a part of my morning routine is to check-in and see how the others are doing.  It might just be on Facebook, but the expressions of warmth, caring, and friendship are genuine. are most certainly genuine.

What’s in store today:

I finished my sweater… so I’ll post a photo below — you are the first to see.   I will probably be wearing it soon as part of my outfit of the day. And I should be writing up a pattern soon… You can see more about my 12 SWEATERS IN 2021 personal challenge…. HERE!

Well, I can honestly say that the T-shirt I have been wearing appears to be jammies.  I guess I never took a photo of the label before!  Anyway… super comfy. Goes well with the JJILL cropped jacket. Both are from thrift stores.

https://tracywright1.com/12-sweaters-in-2021/

For some reason all of my full body photos came out fuzzy.  I am not sure if the lens was dirty, or what.  But I didn’t want to let it prevent me from posting.  Because, for me, that is part of my own challenge — posting every day for 100 days.

https://tracywright1.com/12-sweaters-in-2021/

And, yes, I tied my t-shirt up again.  My daughter called and told me that “the 90s were calling and they wanted their shirt back”…. but I think I will just ignore her…

https://tracywright1.com/12-sweaters-in-2021/

These are handknit wool socks… I just love them. Eventually, I will get around to writing a pattern for them… If I can find my notes!

Shoes are keens. And I have a fondness for little sterling pins.  Love these dancing girls.
