day 23: act naturally

day 23: act naturally

I find it hard to “act naturally” when staring down the lens of a camera… or, in my case, aad cellphone mounted on a tripod.

It’s has taken a bit of getting used to, mounting my phone on a $20 tripod, and then using the Bluetooth “clicker” to snap the photo.   And in order to get my entire body in for a standing pose, the camera is so far away…. I can’t see what I am shooting!

So basically… I just snap a lot!  Between 30 – 50 will get me a few good ones… or at least enough for my post.

And it’s not that I am exceedingly vain, or have super high standards.  Heck, I have photos that I consider in the humbling category… but I post them anyway. Why??

Because it’s real.  That is pretty much how I look. And at 62 years old… I just don’t think I have to keep up my supermodel image anymore.  (Snicker)

So here’s to debunking the perfection myth. And here’s to the tired eyes, silver strands, poochy bellies, and all the lines on our faces, and scars on our bodies that show where we’ve been, and what we’ve survived.

For those of you new to this blog …I am involved in a 100-Day Challenge, put on by Wool&  —  Same dress.  100 days. (And yes, you can wash it!) Part of my reasons for deciding to do this was to simplify my life, especially with my lifestyle.

What’s in store today:

After visiting more with Number 1, and practicing my Appalachian Flatfooting and Clogging, I took off for the coast.  There was a storm front coming in, threatening to drop some snow in Portland, Oregon, and the SW Washington coast.  Indeed, it got into the 30s and did snow, so I am glad that I got an early start, and off the road.

I’ll be posting a follow-up video on Saturday for my  Appalachian Flatfooting and Clogging page.  Should be interesting to see how much i have improved in a week.  I have practiced EVERY day!  Yee Haw!

If you  would like to learn more about Appalachian Flatfooting and Clogging ,And about the great online program I found with a FABULOUS teacher, Click  HERE.

Today, I  did something a little different.  I took the photos from the last 23 days, and used the phone  “Highlights” feature to make a little 1 minute movie!

day 22: one more cup of coffee

One more cup of coffee — sometimes that is all you need!

I used to drink coffee all day long.  There was always one more cup of coffee in the coffee pot.  And I never had any trouble sleeping.

But, times have changed and now I just have one or two cups in the morning.  And then sometimes… I indulge myself with one more cup of coffee in the late afternoon.

Mostly I like my coffee unsweetened, but with whipping cream.  An old throwback from the 70’s from when mom was doing Atkins.  Now, with KETO being so popular,  heavy cream is back in style.  I just never stopped.

( although I must say, I really enjoy a dirty Chai every once in a while!)

What’s in store today:

More errands and appointments.  Which meant, I had to take my photos in the afternoon… instead of the usual morning.  And… I had to practice  my dance sequences later too… which is why I needed that “one more cup of coffee!”

Still Working on that Tennessee Walking Step… trying to commit it to muscle memory.  And Carla, if you are reading, I am working on bending my knees!

Here’s what I came up with for today!

cup of coffee

I just love this little mirror.  It’s what I use to get all did-up when I am in Portland.

Number 1 and I have a fondness for birds, especially little iron ones.

cup of coffee

Pretty casual dress day — sweater is from Target, Universal Threads brand, Leggings are from the Gap, and some Turquoise earrings from  Arizona.

cup of coffee

Another great day in my Chippewa boots.  I swear, they seem to be getting more and more comfortable the longer I wear them.  Note: they run slightly larger– these are a size smaller, and they fit great.

cup of coffee

Every once in a great while. I will have coffee after dinner… and possibly tip a little of this in the cup.  Throwback from living in the Bay Area…. and the Buena Vista.

cup of coffee

This is, by far, my favorite coffee mug.  For one thing, It holds a LOT of coffee and keeps it warm.  And it is easy to hold.  I love hand made.  I believe I found this at a thrift store.

cup of coffee

This one does NOT have any Irish in it… because, I have some work to do still.  But, I might pick some up on the way back to the coast.  Be good to have when the snow hits!

Thanks for joining me for a little cup of coffee. More to come — so check back often!

day 21: tuesday afternoon

day 21: tuesday afternoon

Tuesday afternoon… I’m just beginning to see…

By the end of the week, I will be a quarter of the way through this challenge.  Wow… it’s gone fast! And I am beginning to see some unexpected benefits.  I have been going through my current clothes with fresh eyes, asking “does it go with my new lifestyle and… do I need it??”

And I suspect this will invade the rest of my life and habits, too.  At least I hope so.

For those of you new to this blog …I am involved in a 100-Day Challenge, put on by Wool&  —  Same dress.  100 days. (And yes, you can wash it!) Part of my reasons for deciding to do this was to simplify my life, especially with my lifestyle.

What’s in store today:

Portland errands: haircuts, shopping, and returning the boots that I found through Facebook Marketplace, and were not what I or the seller had believed them to be.  Then dinner at home, and listening to public radio. Pretty standard for a Tuesday afternoon!

I got in my 1 hr dancing…. and think I am making some improvement!  And my new oxfords on super sale came — and I got to try them out!!  These should last at least 20 years!

tuesday afternoon

More on my Appalachian Flatfooting and Clogging project  HERE. Oh… and I got caught secretly practicing my pitty pats and shuffles on the linoleum floor in Fred Meyer  — waiting for Number 1 to finishing looking at groceries!

Here’s what I came up with for today!

tuesday afternoon

I have a fondness for clothes made by Prana.  They are always well made, last for years, and super comfortable. This is one of my favorites, and I had fun with it.

tuesday afternoon

I’ve seen folks on the FB Group who tie their shirts.  I tried both down and tied… and am not sure which I like better.  Number 1 says — NO tied up!

tuesday afternoon

These are Chippewa boots.  I traded another pair with Number 1, and I really like the split-grain for this boot.  Quality made in the USA.  I will wear them for years –good thing they are so sturdy and comfortable!

tuesday afternoon

The weather was pretty pleasant for most of the day, but we are having snow over the next few days, and temps down in the 20’s It is even supposed to snow at the coast!

tuesday afternoon

I also have a fondness for Carhartt.  This is a jacket that was graciously handed down by a friend.  And I am super grateful — it is one of my favorites.  So well made, and flannel lined.

I still need to cull through the existing wardrobe that I currently have.  I love them all…. but there are so many things that no longer wear that I might be able to pass along to someone else.  Lent is coming….

tuesday afternoon

Thanks for joining me this Tuesday Afternoon. More to come — so check back often!

day 20: monday, monday

Monday, Monday, so good to me.

But then, every day is a good day.  There are good days at the Beach, and good days in Portland.  In the not to distant future, I am sure there will be good days visiting other places.. (For instance… I have still never been to Seattle… or to the Gorge!)

My life is not without challenges, but  overall, I feel blessed with good friends, family and health. And a couple of great dogs.  And… a nice car, and places to live, and musical instruments, and yarn, and……

For those of you new to this blog …I am involved in a 100-Day Challenge, put on by Wool&  —  Same dress.  100 days. (And yes, you can wash it!) Part of my reasons for deciding to do this was to simplify my life, especially with my lifestyle.

What’s in store today:

Driving to Portland, Shopping, and hanging out with Number 1.

I also practiced Appalachian Flatfooting and Clogging,  going over the foundation steps, and working on the sequences. Trying to get down the Tennessee Walking Step!! I made new blog page yesterday — you can see it HERE.

Here’s what I came up with for today!

monday

This is the $2 Ralph Lauren Vest that I picked up at the thrift store the other day.  And the boots are UGGS that Number 1 no longer wanted — Yippee!

monday

I wrapped it all in a poncho  — reminds me a bit of High Plains Drifter.

monday

And in the middle, Woolmina and a plaid flannel shirt made by American Eagle.  Super comfy, and great for a long road trip.

monday

This is me fiddling with the camera on my FUGETEK Bluetooth tripod.

And some lovely sock yarn from DGY  — think I’ll start some socks to go with my vest!

monday

On these long drives, I like to listen to audio books.  This is what I am currently listening to  — and loving.  I heard him speak on Public Radio, and it inspired me to get the book.

It comes in print, but I generally get mine from Audible… that way, I can take it with me from my car, to my Echo to my laptop.

day 19: sunny

Sunny, yesterday my life was filled with rain.

The weather is so unpredictable here in the Pacific Northwest.  Rain yesterday, sun today… and snow coming this weekend.  So we dress in layers, and in the winter… lots of them.  This is working out quite well for Woolamina and me.  And even though the sun was out… it was super chilly.  I even got out a hat!

For those of you new to this blog …I am involved in a 100-Day Challenge, put on by Wool&  —  Same dress.  100 days. (And yes, you can wash it!) Part of my reasons for deciding to do this was to simplify my life, especially with my lifestyle.

What’s in store today:

Two words: beach day!  The dogs and I took a little walk down to the beach.  So pretty, but windy and chilly.

sunny

And here we are coming back, through the field that leads to the beach and back.

I also practiced Appalachian Flatfooting and Clogging,  going over the foundation steps, and working on the sequences. Trying to get down the Tennessee Walking Step!! I made a blog page yesterday — you can see it HERE.

Here’s what I came up with for today!

sunny

I bundled up.. but put on my Sunglasses.  These are prescription — and come from Zenni. They are super easy to order  And at a fraction of the cost… I think these were about $40 shipped — and they are bifocals!

sunny

Boots are by Keen.  I got them to walk the Camino Santiago… and although I didn’t end up in Spain, as planned, I love these boots — you could wear them for weeks… or 600 hundred miles!

sunny

Today’s layers: Woolamina over leggings, socks, and boots, with Gap Coat and thrift store scarf.  And hat as needed!

sunny

This is one of the $1 scarves that I found at the thrift store the other day.  Doesn’t take up much room, but surprisingly warm.

Hat is one that I designed — you can get a FREE PATTERN HERE.

sunny

This is my favorite eyeglass case — since I am pretty much blind without them, I need to carry a case with my sunglasses for driving.  The girls brought me this back from their trip to Paris a few years ago.

sunny

WHEW!

So great to get some sunshine — soak up the vitamin D — and Vitamin Sea! I was happy to be able to make it down to the beach, and I know the dogs were!

sunny

Crazy was the name of the game today.  Nuts, Cray-Cray, Wacky, Insane.

The weather was crazy wild. Lots of wind, and stinging rain.  So… no one wanted to go outside much. Expecially me.  Well, I am the only person here.   But the dogs didn’t want to go out either…. which made me… and them a little crazy.

For those of you new to this blog …I am involved in a 100-Day Challenge, put on by Wool&  —  Same dress.  100 days. (And yes, you can wash it!) Part of my reasons for deciding to do this was to simplify my life, especially with my lifestyle.

But I got up and dressed up anyway.  Because that is what I committed to doing.  And it is only day 18….

What’s in store today:

Actually, I was pretty busy, all considered.  I had my first lesson for Appalachian Flatfooting and Clogging, and learned a little dance combination.  Then I filmed my feet doing it, and made a blog page — you can see it HERE.

Then I spent pretty much the rest of the day pulling my hair out, trying to figure out why some photos on my blog were loading and some were not…

Problem solved.  At this rate, I should look into a wig.

Here’s what I came up with for today!

crazy

I threw an oversized JJill Chambray shirt over Woolamina.  I like  the mandarin collar, and monkey fist knotted buttons. And the length hides all manner of sins.Bracelet was from a trip to Mexico a few years back.

crazy

Little embroidered bandolier bag was from Amazon.  I think I got it for Old Spanish Days in Santa Barbara.  Under $13 — holds a lot more than it looks. Click HERE for more.

crazy

Me… getting photobombed by the dogs… oh well.  I need to do some posts with knitting projects!

(Have you seen my knitting page.??)

crazy

Virgin of Guadalupe pendant.  I may have gotten that at the Grotto in Portland.  Amazing grounds and sanctuary.  ANd the gift shop is great.

crazy

The Dude is officially back from Helping #1.  His job is done there, and I was missing having him at the beach.  I am not so sure he was missing Rainey too much… although Rainey and I were in Portland everyweek.

crazy

WHEW!

The Dude is just a cranky old man dog… always has been.  And Rainey likes to play… all the time, running around all cray-cray, pulling the pillows and blankets off everything, and crewing on Dude’s feet.
