day 60 of #tracywearswool: changes

day 60 of #tracywearswool: changes

#tracywearswool day 60 out of 100 — and I can’t believe all the ch-ch-ch changes so far

For one thing… I would never in a million years think of wearing 2 dresses at once.  Or … knotting a dress to hitch it up.  Or, wear them with leggings and Frye boots.  And certainly, not all three together. (Ok… maybe the  Frye boots part… but that’s the only plausible one…)

But, thanks to my new peeps at the #100daydresschallenge Facebook Group, I changed my ways.  But heck… I wore a dress more in the last 60 days than the last 3 or 4 years combined. I started wearing makeup every day.  And jewelry.

And there have been other changes too! For one thing, in the last 60 days,  I cut off about 2 feet of hair and lost 15 lbs. I took up Appalachian Flatfooting and Clogging.  I learned how to play the bodrhan. I reevaluated my relationship with my possessions — mainly clothes — and purged and donated a lot. I started some personal challenges, like knitting 12 sweaters in 12 months, and a podcast of the entire Bible in 365 days.  And I blogged every day (daily for the dress challenge, weekly for that dance challenge, and monthly for the sweater challenge.)

But best of all… along the way, I met a lot of really interesting people, with really interesting stories.

Of course… there are still some folks that think the “cheese has slid off the cracker”, but I don’t care… I’m still wearing the boots with my dress!  That way, I can do my clogging practice on the linoleum floors pushing my cart up and down the supermarket aisles.

For those of you new to this blog …I am involved in a 100-Day Challenge, put on by Wool&  —  Same dress.  100 days. (And yes, you can wash it!) Part of my reasons for deciding to do this was to simplify my life, especially with my lifestyle.

What’s in store today:

Gorgeous day at the beach.  But still pretty darn cold.  I had my dance class… so much fun.

Wore my new Frye boots , and then just left them on for the rest of the day… super comfy.  Other than that,  podcast, and some knitting, and playing with the dogs.

These photos are of me in front of my home: a 24 foot RV. I rarely show them, because people equate my style of living with homeless.  But… I love it.

#tracywearswool

LuLaRoe Dress over Woolamina, with a Gap denim shirt thrown on top.  Belt pulls it all together — hahahah.

#tracywearswool

Boots are by FRYE, but I got them off EBAY. They are technically mens… which means they have a thicker sole… and make better noise for clogging!

#tracywearswool

Not sure why the color is off, but I love the photo of the old Gap belt that I have.

And getting old sometimes means you Febreze your hair by accident.  Glasses are on order…

day 59 of #tracywearswool: good day sunshine

#tracywearswool I can’t believe that it is day 59!! And I have that song in my head: good day sunshine…

Do you ever get a song stuck in your head, and it keeps popping up all day?  I do, almost every day.  It is one of the ways I title my blog posts.

More often than not, someone will say something… these days, I am more likely to hear it on the radio!  And it triggers a song… which then plays over and over again.  Believe it or not, they have a name for that!

#tracywearswool

Yep, that's what they call them.

The term “earworm” comes from the German der Ohrwurm, which means musical itch. It all started in 1979 with Cornelius Eckert, who was a psychiatrist.

It is commonly described as a looped segment of music which is usually about 20 seconds long that suddenly plays in our heads without any conscious effort.

And an earworm can last for hours, days, or even, (and I can’t even imagine it) months.

It mostly happens when your mind is wandering or your brain is idle or bored, or simply overloaded. That’s is most likely when they crop up.

Apparently, they are more common with people who have a musical background, are neurotic, tired, or stressed out.

And — get this — some songs have been neuro-engineered to stick in your head!

Just a little educational tidbit I thought I would throw in there!

What’s in store today:

Rain and lots of wind her at the beach.  Gale warning, in fact.  I’ll be spending most of my time inside.

I did wear my new Frye boots and practiced my shuffles and chugs, and all sorts of bits and bobs.  I’ll be doing my videos for that on Sunday, so I better get some more practice in!  I don’t know what I am going to do when this is over, I have been having so much fun learning!

#tracywearswool

In addition to the earworm, I seem to be afflicted with the dreaded spring fever.

We had a couple of sunny days, but then..poof… they were gone.

So I wore my sunny island-y sleeveless shirt as a vest!

#tracywearswool

But it was still freezing out sid…. ok… it was 42, and that is close enough.  So, I kept my UGGS and leggings on!

#tracywearswool

Desert sand-colored long sleeve t-shirt added an additional layer.

This challenge has definitely changed the way I dress.  And It has been a lot of fun.  It is day 59, and I have still not worn the same outfit twice!

#tracywearswool

Avocadoes are e feel better about having spring fever.  How can you not be happy with a couple of ripe avos sitting in a bowl on your counter??

day 58 of #tracywearswool: singing in the rain

day 58 of #tracywearswool: singing in the rain

#tracywearswool and singing in the rain!

Which is easy to do in the Pacific Northwest!  But really, any reason is a good reason to sing.

In 2017, I had spine surgery on my neck. I went in as an alto in a church choir.  When I woke up… I sound like a middle-aged, alcoholic chain-smoking man… with a 4 note range. Seriously.  Not only was my range limited, so was my volume… i had no voice when I went to call my dog… nothing… not noise at all. And totally unpredictable. I never knew what was going to come out of my mouth

It slowly got a bit better. But it would never be the same. Apparently, there was nerve damage to my vocal cords. One side was paralyzed.

But I decided to look at is as a new voice, not a broken voice. And.. there is always the blues, and more Bonnie Raitt and Bob Dylan, and Tom Waits.  And I started playing the Ukulele with a group that met the same day my Choir was meeting.  And that led to picking up the guitar again… and then drumming. And starting singing classes. And I  have grown so much vocally, with my new voice.

And as I worked on it… it has become so much better than it ever was before.  And I have a wicked “break”… which is pretty fun!

So this was actually the best thing that happened to me vocally. Funny how that worked out!!

What’s in store today:

It’s a beautiful day in Portland! Doing a little singing and dancing… as it rains outside before I head to the beach.

I did get a new pair of Frye boots to try out for dancing…. here is me trying them out in the bathroom!

Super thrilled — I found a product that I love at Sally Beauty Supply for my hair — Main Attraction… it is a wax product, and helps give my hair body and chunky messiness.  YAY.

Outfit today includes my favorite JJill sweater!

#tracywearswool

I borrowed this pashmina/wrap from my daughter’s rather large selection of neckwear. It has leopard print and sequins… which I would have never worn before my new way-of-the-wool!

#tracywearswool

Gray Leggings, of course, and my fabulously comfortable wool socks and new Frye boots.

#tracywearswool

These are going to be the best boots, slightly larger than my normal size, they make lots of cool percussion noise!

#tracywearswool and songs from our past…

I remember this song from childhood.  We all seemed to learn it, at they YMCA or scouts, or camp, or someplace like that.  So that when you hear the words or the tune… you instantly remember the song… or bits of it.   It’s funny how music can do that to you, trigger a memory that you haven’t thought about in years, maybe even decades.

As I was looking for Irish songs to sing at a zoom jam, I ran across this… and then…BAM!  Instantly transported back in time.

What’s in store today:

It’s a beautiful day in Portland! Things are starting to bloom.  I am waiting for all the tulips and then the cherry blossoms.

Pretty quiet around here, I’ll do some knitting, and some computer work… order new eyeglasses, knit, and hang out with the dogs.    The garden project is coming along… I can’t wait!!

#tracywearswool

The sand is where the new walkways will be.  Dirt or grass is for the planter boxes.

#tracywearswool

Another lovely St Patrick’s Day!   ANd I have been saving this wonderful velour shirt with lace cutouts, that was given to me by another wool challenger — Lois Ann!  Many thanks to her — perfect for St Paddy’s. Comfortable & warm.

#tracywearswool

I’ve pulled it over my Woolamina, and love how the Iron Gray shows through the lace cutouts.  It will work great if I ever have something dressy.   Gray Leggings, of course, and the ever-present bulldog, round it off.

#tracyearswool

And I put on my Dansko Mary Janes.  Which, by the way, work great for my Appalachian Flatfooting and Clogging, too  I shuffled and chugged all over the kitchen floor. I practiced a riff called “grannie does your dog bite?”

#tracywearswol

I usually make my dancing videos on  Sunday, so keep your eyes peeled for that on — I keep threatening to video them at the Fred Meyer Store… if I can get a cart cam!  Stay tuned for that!!

day 56 of #tracywearswool: song sung blue

day 56 of #tracywearswool: song sung blue

Song sung blue, everybody knows one. But when you take the blues and make a song, you sing them out again.

Song is a wonderful healer.  And I thing that everyone is born with the ability to sing.  But sometimes it happens, that someone tells us we aren’t any good, or that we should just stand in the back… or…. mouth the words.  And so some of us stop singing.  I have heard this story from so many people, and talk about making me feel blue.  Because I can relate.   And, I didn’t sing for  a long time.  But then I got old enough not to care what other people say… or think.  And I started singing, and making music, and dancing.

So take that, you poopy pants dream squashers! I proved you wrong.

What’s in store today:

Woke up to more frost outside… brr at 32.  I got to spend some time sitting in bed knitting with my coffee and podcast, while I waited for the house to heat up.

Early morning eye doctor appointment and my eyes are still crummy.  But, I get to order some new glasses… and I love new glasses!  Also, some special computer glasses!! YAY!

Other than that, pretty quiet, dancing, knitting, cooking, eating, napping, and hanging out with the dogs.

#tracywearswool

This is sweater #3 for the year… I plan on doing 12.  It’s my own little 12 sweaters in 2021 knitting challenge!!

There are details on that page, and a coupon for the yarn!

#tracywearswool

Super casual day hanging with the pups and knitting…. Columbia fleece that I inherited from my daughter.

Teamed with gray waffle knit socks…my standby. HERE they are in Graphite.

#tracywearswool

And that is about it for my outfit.   Leggings, of course, and the ever-present bulldog.

Rainey has spina bifida, so she will wear diapers for her entire life. But she doesn’t let it slow her down one bit.

#tracywearswool

I am hoping for some warmer days to come down the pipeline… get back to some gardening, and bare legs .

But in the meantime, I will be inside, knitting away at my sweater!

Thanks for joining me on my “song sung blue” post.  Stay tuned for the next 44 days of #tracywearswool!

day 55 of #tracywearswool: touch of gray

Every silver lining’s got a touch of gray.

But, really, that is what keeps it real. It’s not all black and white these days… but more mixed up … much more grayscale. Dare I say… shades of gray?  Ok… maybe mixing it up a little too much.  The important thing is that… we will get by.  We will survive.

What’s in store today:

Torrential rain through last night, and hail on the road trip to Portland.  But it wasn’t too bad once I got here… chilly, and I had to go get out my wool socks, and throw on an extra sweater until the house heated up.

They guys were here working on the garden conversion — out with lawn, in with planter boxes and walkways.  Super excited about this project. Can’t wait to plant the giant sunflowers and dahlias and nasturtiums in the planter box along the fence, and veggies and herbs in the rest!

#tracywearswol
#tracywearswool

Talk about a touch of gray for #tracywearswol! Gray dress, gray sweater, gray plaid shirt…. it is a good thing I love gray!!

#tracywearswool

This classic Pendelton shirt isn’t wool, though, but 100% cotton flannel. In the Pacific Northwest, that makes it a 4 seasons shirt.  I just love the soft colors.

#tracywearswool

I had bare legs for a few days, but it is back to leggings and UGGS. I just opened up a new pair of leggings. Soft and buttery, and at $13, I’ll be ordering more!

#tracywearswool

Madewell pullover, lightweight, slightly a-line. Goes well with the Rowena, but it pretty much goes with everything.

Cross is from my mom, used to belong to Great Auntie Marge.
