2022 day 4

2022 day 4

 Day  4

Day 4  warmed up a bit. And not a bit too soon for me.  It was still chilly, but up in the 40s.  And that gave me a little bit of time to get things straightened up outside.  I still haven’t gotten the tulip bulbs in, but that is coming…next warm spell.

I have been doing well on the buy nothing for 100 days.. but that has been a challenge. I seem to be inundated with ads on social media, and emails, and push notifications.  The yarn sales are the worst… such lovely hanks from small hand dyers… or the beautiful Noro that is on sale for a ridiculous price.  96 days to go. Getting rid of 100 things has been a lot easier!

Also… I started Duolingo a few days ago, on the second.  So I guess I am adding that to the new habits I am cultivating, as I have been doing it every day.  Always good to brush up on a second language — so I am going with Spanish.  But I also might do Latin….

And I made a little video of all the shots I needed to take… just to try to get one!  I use a tripod with a bluetooth clicker for my phone.n Super good deal, and on sale now for under $17!

For those of you new to this blog …I am involved in a 100-Day Challenge, put on by Wool&  —  Same dress.  100 days. Details are on tracywearswool.com. I am also taking the same 100 days to make some additional positive changes to develop daily habits in writing, art, knitting and eating better.  I will also be not buying anything but essentials, and giving away an item for each of the 100 days.

JANUARY 4, 2022 – DAY 4

2022 day 4

I had a bunch of cleaning to get done today, so I put on my Willow, and a denim apron on top. I also tried out my new FORAGER POUCH that I ordered last year…before the challenge. It attaches to my belt and folds up when not in use.  Great purse alternative. Or dog bags. I LOVE it!

2022 day 4

Daily knitting on the sock…but I need to get crackin’ on this month’s sweater!   I am knitting a sweater called Alberta Summer in a wonderful Noro dk that I got from Webs. I will post a photo tomorrow!

2022 day 4

I also did a little drawing… but when will i remember not to use pens that bleed with watercolor.  UGG!  Colored pencils to the rescue.

Winsor & Newton watercolor paints, and my favorite little Pentalic 3 x 4″ Pocket Sketchbook Traveler Journal.

2022 day 4

Here is a close-up of my FORAGER POUCH… perfect for carrying my sock project.

Today’s giveaway was a Chewbacca talking candy dispenser. Matches the Yoda from yesterday.  Hope someone likes it!

 Day  3

Day 3 was still pretty cold… but I managed to get out in the garden and yank out some of the frozen nasturtiums and dahlias.  They looked so pretty right up to the freeze. Not so much anymore.  Salvador Dali called and wants his nasturtiums back. They were on borrowed time and lasted pretty long into the season. Parting is such sweet sorrow…

JANUARY 3, 2022 – DAY 3

2022 day 3

Today was a first… I went and shot pool with a ladies’ group here in Portland.  Had a wonderful time. Didn’t embarrass myself too much and met a few new friends.

This is what my garden looked like about a month ago.

2022 day 3
I continued my daily habit of art with a line drawing… only to realize that the ink was not waterproof… so I colored in with some pencils instead of doing watercolor.
2022 day 3

Best of all, Number 1 and I went to see a live show of THE MOTH — a show carried by NPR and Oregon Public Broadcasting.  It was so much fun and was held at The Old Church Concert Hall downtown.

2022 day 3

Today’s giveaway was a Yoda talking candy dispenser.

I am super happy to be purging myself of all these little things that I manage to have acquired along the way.  100 things, 100 days. Mostly to appreciative folks in my neighborhood Buy Nothing Group!

Thanks for joining me on day 3 of my #tracywearswool & new habits journey.

Stay tuned for the next 97 days!

Here is  Grandog Titus taking over my chair — in December before the freeze– you can see the green nasturtium leaves!

2022 DAY 2

2022 DAY 2

 Day  2

Cold and rainy here on day 2  in Portland, Oregon.  But not super cold like the last few days.  Not freeze your new garden pipes cold, like yesterday.  My bad, I should have insulated the above-ground pvc pipe to the new system.  Luckily, we installed a shut-off valve.  Whew.   but that was yesterday.  And today brought a bit of rain, which will most likely freeze tonight making the roads nice and icy.  A good reason to stay in.

Today, I donned my hippy shirt and did hippy things.  Namely, make yogurt and sauerkraut.  Well, started both.  Yogurt will be ready tomorrow, and the kraut, in about a week. We go through a lot of both of them here.

For those of you who have never made sauerkraut, I made a couple of 1-minute videos.  Super simple. Super cheap.  And super delicious.  You need 1 head of cabbage, and about 4 TBS — roughly, of coarse salt.  And a half-gallon jar with a wide mouth. Here are two 1 minute videos on a simple way to make it.

JANUARY 2 , 2022 – DAY 2

2022 day 2

I finished  Hello Habits.  It is his second book, the first one is Goodbye Things.  I highly recommend both!

I like to listen to audiobooks while I knit, but it comes in paperback, too. Today I grafted the toe of my sock, and started the second

2022 day 2
I am always amazed at the Kitchener stitch for grafting. It is this weaving in and out, and I am never quite sure it is right… until the end.  And then, just like magic, it works out to make the toe of the sock seamless!
2022 day 2

This afternoon, I ventured into a new area… animals.  I grew up drawing horses, but don’t think I have done one since Junior High.  But I think I may be drawing more in the coming days….

2022 day 2

I also started some yogurt in the Instant Pot — which is super simple and super easy.  You just need milk, and about 2 tbs of commercial yogurt with live cultures. More tomorrow.

Today’s giveaway was a glass apple paperweight.

Thanks for joining me on day 2 of my #tracywearswool & new habits journey.

Stay tuned for the next 98 days!

OH.. and I signed up for Duolingo — so I can proudly… Quien es mas guapo, Titus o Rainey?

Hasta, folks!

2022 day 1

It’s the first day of a new year!

2021 was interesting… to say the least. The second year of the pandemic looming, I was determined to do something so that didn’t look back on the year and think … what did I accomplish with all that extra time?    In part, I…

  • completed my first 100-day dress challenge and made a lot of wonderful friends along the way.
  • cut 2 feet off my hair.
  • learned APPLACHIAN FLATFOOT AND CLOGGING
  • knit 14 sweaters, a couple of pairs of socks and a few hats.
  • changed jobs
  • participated in Inktober
  • cut out refined sugar and carbs… and lost 20 lbs
  • moved full time to Portland
  • and…
  • ripped out an entire front lawn and replaced it with garden boxes and a watering system.

For the next 100 I plan to continue with another 100-day dress challenge (same idea, different dress), work on art every day,  give away 100 items, and buy nothing but essentials.

I am also planning on knitting another 12 sweaters…. or 6 sweaters and 6 pr of socks.  I haven’t quite decided on that yet!

JANUARY 1, 2022 – DAY 1

2022 day 1

Having a wool dress to slip into this morning was a lifesaver.  After oversleeping a bit, I threw on the dress and a trusty Columbia Sportswear wool sweater, leggings, and boots in about 3 minutes.

2022 day 1

Then, fortified with a cup of coffee, I tossed on a wool pea coat to brave the 25 degree weather for a quick dog walk.  And I made it on time for my 9 am Wool& Fiber Friends Zoom call that I was hosting!!

2022 day 1

This afternoon, I worked on my website — and updated my 12 sweaters in 2021 knitting page, and worked on a little ink and watercolor drawing.

2022 day 1

I discussed chair rights with my two housemates, but was outnumbered.

Finally, I bagged up some items to post on my neighborhood buy nothing group.

2022 day 1

Thanks for joining me on my #tracywearswool journey.

Stay tuned for the next 99 days!

Be well, and get out there and enjoy yourself.
