day 75 of #tracywearswool: tea for two

day 75 of #tracywearswool: tea for two

#tracywearswool day 75 out of 100, and it is time for tea.

Two for tea.. and that is generally me.  And sometimes, that is when I make my phone calls, or video calls with friends and family.  It is a good way to connect, over a cuppa.. and see how things are going.

Of course, It will be nice to get back to the regular time… if there is any such  thing anymore.  You know, tea in person. Or coffee… or bourbon.  Anything, really.

The time will come, I am sure of it.

For those of you new to this blog …I am involved in a 100-Day Challenge, put on by Wool&  —  Same dress.  100 days. (And yes, you can wash it!) Part of my reasons for deciding to do this was to simplify my life, especially with my lifestyle.

What’s in store today:

Another chilly day at the beach, so there are lots of layers today.  I practiced my Appalachain Flatfooting and Clogging — Trying to get it down enough to make a video.  I can’t say how much I enjoyed learning this, and I sure hope to continue.  In fact, I would love to travel to Kentucky and see where the family went along the Appalachian Trail. Between Amazing Dress people, and clogging people, I will have a lot of new folks to visit with. In the meantime, I’ll hang out at the beach.

#tracywearswool 75
#tracywearswool 75

It didn’t get much above 50 today, so again, it was lots of layers   I started with Woolamaina, and added a hand-knit mixed fiber sweater that I have had for years.

Added my GAP jacket, with zip-in lining.  Super warm.

#tracywearswool 75

You never know what to expect from the weather this time of year.  On the beach, we can get some pretty stiff winds, that can drop the temperatures in a flash.  I always find that layers work the best.

#tracywearswool 75

The safest bet is nice fleecy tights, and a scarf.

This is  hand dyed piece of indigo fabric — I think it is silk.  It was once the wrapping for some yarn that was a gift from my daughter.  A friend of hers grows the indigo for dying.

#tracywearswool 75

When the weather gets to be icer I will coordinate some time to go dye some wool — so excited — enough for a sweater for my challenge.

These Keen mary janes are just about the most comfortable footwear around.

Thanks for joining me on day 75 of #tracywearswool.

Stay tuned for the next 25 days!

Be well, and get out there and grow!

day 74 of #tracywearswool: down in the boondocks

#tracywearswool day 74 out of 100, and I am down in the boondocks.

And I like it that way.  Half the time I am out in the big city of Portland Oregon, with Powell’s books, and Voodoo Donuts… and all the hustle and bustle of a major city.  There is so much to do… the Rose Garden, The Grotto,  more yarn stores than you can count, Trade-Up music, and the list goes on.

And as much as I love Portland, it gets a little busy, and loud.  So I am always relieved to head back down the road to Long Beach, Washington, where I live out in the boondocks — in the best sense of the word.  Out on the beach, to be precise, where everything is just a little bit slower, and a little bit quieter.  And there is a great yarn store here — just down the road in the next little sleepy town.  Heaven.  And I love it!

What’s in store today:

Pretty busy here at the beach, lots of guests in and out  Everybody happy as clams.  of course they will be super happy when clam season opens back up!  I have my graduation party (ZOOM) for Appalachain Flatfooting and Clogging — still have to make that final video and post!  And I will have to keep practicing — so that I can be ready for the next class.  I started on Sweater #4 — photos tomorrow… after I get a bit more done.

#tracywearswool 74

Today was all about layers — because although it looked nice, the wind off the water brought in quite a chill.  So I started with Woolamina, added a GAP oversized linen shirt.

I was told that people in some towns IRON their linen…..

#tracywearswool 74

A lightweight gray pullover was inherited from Number 1 goes on next, and then topped by a super comfortable cardigan.

#tracywearswool 74

Today was chilly… even though the sun was shining.  So it was a perfect day to try out my new tights from a “Sister in the Wool!” She is one of the wonderful folks in the challenge Facebook Group.  Such an honor to be in their company.

#tracywearswool 74

Pull on some nice and thick tights, and some Keen Kaci slides, and I am good to go.

#tracywearswool day 73 out of 100, and YES… we have sunshine!!

It is always pretty much a cause for celebration when the sun comes out in the Pacific Northwest.  Of course, we get great summer weather, but it is after the long dreary, rainy winter that the sun is such a welcome sight.

Of course, all the fabulous rain makes for a very green, lush landscape.  And when the sun comes out…. we really get things growing.

I’ll post the sunflower status — I planted seeds a few weeks ago — not from seed packets, but from a 25 lb sack of Wagner’s black oil organic sunflower seed…. for birds! A Canadian told me she does it…. and they are coming in quite nicely.  I will have enough to keep reseeding for the entire season, for both here and Portland.

What’s in store today:

Today, I am back at the coast with a dozen Fuschia starts and almost that many geranium starts.  So I will be working in the flowerbeds and filling flowerpots today, along with some weeding and sprucing the place up.  And, of course, I will be trying to get some knitting done, and working on some personal development — listening to podcasts, and journaling.

#tracywearswool 73

Today was chilly… even though the sun was shining.  So it was a perfect day to try out my new tights from a “Sister in the Wool!” She generously handed down several pairs of the coolest tights. Whe she posted on FB that she was paring down… I raised my hand!

#tracywearswool 73

There were three pairs of great striped leggings, and several pairs of solids, and a couple with fair isle motifs.  The stripes are my favorites, especially these pink ones!!

Zip fleece is vintage REI.

#tracywearswool 73

For me, it is a growth thing… because before the dress, I would never have bought striped tights… or worn a short-sleeve t-shirt over a dress?? WHAT THE HECK??

And I am having so much fun with it all!!

Thanks for joining me on day 73 of #tracywearswool.

Stay tuned for the next 27 days!

day 72 of #tracywearswool: blue bayou

#tracywearswool day 72 out of 100, and I have just finished up sweater  #3 of 12 for 2021!!

I have to admit, I knit this for my dress.  Not the dress that I am wearing for the challenge, which is the long sleeve Rowena.  But I thought that this lightweight sweater would go really well with the sleeveless Sierra tank dress… which just happened to arrive this past week.

When this yarn came — it is silk & raw silk mix… I just knew that it would be perfect.  So I designed this little cropped, 3/4 sleeve raglan sweater to go with it.  Not too heavy, but for times when I don’t want bare arms.  Hopefully….for travelling in the warm months of fall.

Who knows, maybe I’ll make it to the Bayou!

What’s in store today:

Heading back to the coast, and taking some flowers to plant.  The nursery had Fuschia starts, ao I bout some and a hanging basket.  Also picked up some geraniums — because the deer seem to leave them alone.

Still working on publishing my last hat pattern. Sign up on my mailing list for GYPSYWAGONKNITS and I’ll notify you when it comes out.

The DK yars for this project came from Darn Good Yarn. This color is Caribbean Current, and I used 3 skeins.

I had a lot of fun designing this sweater.  I got the rosebud lace motif from a book on shetland lace knits.

My idea was to have a super lightweight sweater that was easy to wear.

#tracywearswool 72

I do have to admit that I look a bit edgy in this photo. Maybe it is the dark glasses or the terse expression.

Like I am saying — I see…. so you don’t like beets….

#tracywearswool 72

Spring is definitely here – cool in the mornings, but up to 70 in the afternoon — about a 35-degree fluctuation.

Almost time to get the garden in.

#tracywearswool 72

Here is the progress, not just need to fill the boxes, and lay down the walkways.  And the irrigation. Whooo Hooo!

Artichokes, beets, radishes -the French breakfast kind -and of course tomatoes, and cukes, lettuce, and kale, and …

day 71 of #tracywearswool: where do the children play?

#tracywearswool day 71 out of 100, and let’s talk about playing.

So where do the children play these days.  When we were kids, you got on your bike after breakfast and came back for dinner. You went to your friends’ houses, or the beach, or the park, or met in an empty field, or mountain top… or wherever.  AND… I’m not that old.

But this pandemic has put a twist on things. Kids can’t get together like they used to.  And that is a shame. bt even without the pandemic… times are changing.  Around here, the parks are filthy.  In the street in front of the house, people toss their trash in the gutter. It blows into my daughter’s yard, plastic bottles, papers, food wrappers, fast food containers.  You name it.  I wondered if it would help to put a trash can there.  I wouldn’t want my kids playing in that.  Horrible.

About a year ago, I gave up single-use plastic and paper goods ( except toilet paper.)  I know it is not much, but I hope it helps.  And I really don’t miss them.  Saves space, money, and the environment.  And Sustainability is one of my reasons for doing the Dress Challenge.  Might not work for everyone, but it works for me.

For those of you new to this blog …I am involved in a 100-Day Challenge, put on by Wool&  —  Same dress.  100 days. (And yes, you can wash it!) Part of my reasons for deciding to do this was to simplify my life, especially with my lifestyle.

What’s in store today:

Working on knitting and knitting patterns here in Portland.  And I joined a Meet and Knit Zoom Event held by a local yarn shop tonight — over ZOOM, of course.

Still working on publishing my last hat pattern. Sign up on my mailing list for GYPSYWAGONKNITS and I’ll notify you when it comes out.

Here are the socks I am doing now:

#tracywearswool 71
I got this Self Striping Alanya Sock Yarn Kit from Darn Good Yarn. This color is Love Letter, but there are 4 others! (I am pretty sure it is on sale now, too!)
And use code: TRACY15 for an additional 15% off.
Woman owned, thoughtful sourced and good for our peeps and planet.
#tracywearswool 71

I threw an old Gap 100% cotton chambray shirt , and an even older FLAX elastic waist, baby wale corduroy shirt over Woolamina.

She becomes this perfect under-dress.. and I don’t have to worry about her getting untucked like a t-shirt!

#tracywearswool 71

Then nice thick leggings,  and my trusty Crocs.

I forgot to take off my trusty boot socks, so you will see them in some of the photos below.  I kind of wear them like slippers when I am inside, and leave my shoes at the door.

#tracywearswool 71

It got up to  70 here in Portland, Oregon today.  And we made a lot of progress on the garden.  Make sure to check back tomorrow, because I will for sure be posting photos of the progress.

#tracywearswool 71

Did you notice the new specs??  WHOO HOO!

And best of all, I got some computer ” midrange glasses” which is really going to help with eye strain & reading the screen!

Cool Circular Needles were about half what I normally pay, so that’s  bonus!

#tracywearswool 71

Thanks for joining me on day 71 of #tracywearswool. This is me trying to get some decent shots for my post!

Stay tuned for the next 29 days!

.

Be well, and get out there and play!
