Appalachian Flatfooting and Clogging
with tracyI want to release the Appalachian Flatfooting and Clogging Person who is trapped inside me. Sound Crazy?
I know she’s in there… because I have dreams about her. Yep, popping up at music festivals and events and making sweet percussive music with her feet. Tippity tapping down the aisles at Costco, or just dancing alone on the hard kitchen floor.
I used to have a framed poster at the house quite a few years back… that said:’
The fact is… I think dancing and singing are our birthrights. We are born to do them. But somewhere along the line, either someone told us we move or sound funny, or that we weren’t any good… and that was it. Case closed. And then we become “NOT A DANCER.”
And that was me. Somehow, I started to feel embarrassed about the way my body moves to music. And I just stopped. But now I am tired of being “NOT a dancer”
My Friend says that to learn Music, you just need attention and practice. And I think this kind of dancing is the same way — just making music with your feet. So I have decided to become a dancer by focusing on those elements — attention and practice. And… also signing up with someone who can teach me the moves.
I chose this style of dancing because it is so happy. And you can do it almost anywhere you have a hard surface. And you don’t need any other people to do it with. And… we’ll, I think it is super cool! I love the way it soundshttps://tracywright1.com/about-me/ and looks.
And as a musician, I have spent time jamming to old-timey and bluegrass tunes — which is where I first learned of it. And I have a basic understanding of rhythm, and that will be helpful, too. More about me HERE!
So I signed up with a great teacher and joined a class of about 50 that will learn and practice online modules that are released every Monday, and then will meet online over Zoom on Saturday Morning. Sound Fun??
My Teacher’s name is Carla Gover, and you can find out more about her (click below)
I’ll be posting videos weekly, right after my Appalachian Flatfooting and Clogging class. You can follow along here, or send me a FB friend request, and you will get notified when I post!
***** SIDE BY SIDE VIDEO COMPARISON *****
Here’s after the first lesson…. Yep, I’m a complete wannabe beginner in a pair of Gandpa shoes. Teacher’s got a lot of work to get done!
This is the current week — week two. Pretty much the same sequence.
I ordered these super cool FRYE oxfords for my Appalacian Flatfooting and Clogging class. They have leather soles, which was a super hard thing to find! You can get more info….
THAT’S IT FOR NOW… STAY TUNED AND HAPPY DANCING!

day 25: wildflowers
Wildflowers - we belong among them! Or in this case, wrapped up in wildflowers. The more I look at this shirt, the more I like it. It was one from my thrift shop excursion last week. At $2 bucks, I didn't even look at it that closely, but went on the weight of the...
