It is almost the end of week 2 of my Appalachian Flatfooting and Clogging Challenge.
And, I can honestly say that I am seeing some progress. I have to admit…. I practiced a lot. I was a little nervous about showing up after I stated this HUGE intention for learning how to become proficient.
So I practiced for at least an hour every day. And, then I practiced while cooking dinner. And … while waiting for my coffee to brew.
And then… I got busted by my Number 1 for practicing in the grocery store. She was taking a long time to pick out cream cheese, or yogurt, or something.. and I started thinking… “shuffle, set, toe, step…”
“MOM…you aren’t really practicing in the supermarket… ARE YOU??”
Of course not. So, I just walked behind her, pushing my grocery cart…
Pitty-pat-pitty-pat
pitty-pitty-pitty-pat
Have you seen that scene in the movie Billy Elliot where he is practicing on the way down the street… that’s how I felt.
Appalachian Flatfooting and Clogging Videos – Week 2
Video 1 is a repeat of the first sequence that I did last week…. so I could see the progress. I will post it on the main page as well… along with the first-week video. You can see them side by side HERE
Video 2 is the pitty-pat sequence…. the one that I was doing in the market.
Video 3 is my favorite sequence…so far.
My two little “helpers” are Rainey (bulldog) and the Dude ( cattle dog/rat terrier). At least she has stopped attacking my feet when I practice…
And here is a video of someone who is really good at this. Not me… but I’ll get there!

days 10 & 11: our house
I love our house -- which is, by the way, a 24' rv. I live here with my two dogs, on the beach in SW Washingon. And, although I spend a lot of time in Portland, where my daughter lives, this is our house. I look at it as trading REAL estate for WHEEL estate. Made...
day 9 – poncho and lefty
Who doesn't love a fabulous poncho??T I love, love, love this one. It was a gift from a great friend. But, unfortunately, I have been remiss. I changed out of my fancy dressup clothes and into traveling clothes just before the drive to the coast. And I lefty both...
day 8: different drum
Those of us in the #100daydresschallenge travel to the beat of a different drum. Mostly one that resonates with minimalism, sustainability, and camaraderie. We are a group moving together, but still separately. We each have our own agenda and our own start date. In...
day 7: coming around the mountain
Yes, she'll be coming around the mountain when she comes. Because, today is the day that I drive from Long Beach Washington to Portland... around the mountains, along the Columbia River, over some hills, and through small sleepy towns. I make the drive every week,...
day 6: do you wear a slip?
My mom asked me, "do you have to wear a slip with that dress?" And I replied, "Only if you want to." Well, today, I wanted to. It's the 6th day, and I am having a lot of fun. I find my self thinking... what if? Like What if I wear a slip, what if I put a...
day 5: belted
Day 5, and I was a bit worried about wearing it belted. I just didn't want to look like a gray potato sack trussed up in the middle. I think sometimes we get caught up with notions like this because of something we heard as a child or young person. Such as don't...
Just want to let you know that you are not the only one practicing constantly and I break into these steps, no shame, on walks with my SO, like EVERY day. He is so patient. He just laughs and puts up with me dancing everywhere. This is a very ambitious course – kind of like a college course and you get out of it what you put in so I am dedicating myself to it completely!!
I am super loving it!!!… I never took dance before… and it’s awkward and amazing at the same time!!
